What is Complacency?
Well, it happens to many people during the course of their career.
It comes out of nowhere, but when it happens, it’s gut-wrenching – and most people do not know what to do about it.
Some people don’t even know it’s happening.
It happens to the best of us, though.
At one point in life, we might just start feeling that we’ve reached our own potential, and what follows is a satisfaction in our current situation.
Some might feel that everything is only going to go downhill from a point in their lives and believe that reaching further for success might mean that they will only make them disappointed.
However, this sort of thinking might really derail a career quickly.
If you have enough worry in your life, don’t self-sabotage.
Don’t be complacent.
Why am I complacent?
Its not really your fault your complacent, your brain is programmed to protect you.
The following are a few tips that you can follow to keep yourself on track and keep yourself from going down that road.
- Never become satisfied
Being content with your accomplishments and the things that you have is a good thing. However, you equally shouldn’t be comfortable in your current situation. Do you remember what you wanted to be as a kid? If you still have that same dream, and if it is aligned with your career, see if you can make both ends meet. Insatiability is the human condition.
A very important thing for continued advancement is building your network. You will never become truly successful in life without the help of others, and networking is the way to truly work on your weaknesses. As the saying goes, spend time on your strengths, however, let other people complement your weaknesses.
- Explore Your Passions
Your passions are ever-changing and ever-evolving. The things you wanted when you were 20 are not the same things that you want when you are 30. It’s important to every year (or few years), to revaluate where you are in life, what you want out of life, and how you can achieve what you want in life.
- Take Vacations
Complacency might sometimes be just a symptom of burnout! If you have not taken a vacation recently, do it on the next possible time. Your body will thank you for it, and when you get back, you will have such a positive outlook, which will allow you to break down the most difficult of barriers.
The key to overcoming complacency
The key to overcoming complacency is to never truly be satisfied and always want more.
Having this mindset will stop you from be complacent because you will always be working towards being better.
If this doesn’t work for you make that career change you have wanted to make for the last 5 years and don’t be afraid to fail be comfortable being uncomfortable.
With these tips you can end this terrible year more motivated and focussed than ever.
