Stop Making Yourself Feel Guilty when Not Busy

Even from a very early age, we’ve been taught and even now continue to be taught that we must always keep ourselves busy with work and various other things. Think on it, when was the last time you actually were able to just sit back and relax for a whole day without thinking about the many things that you had to do, feeling bad that you haven’t been doing it?

This isn’t just about work. Think about it. When was the last time that you just stayed at home and just had a whole day of leisure. No opening your work email, no checking for things that you could work on, not cleaning the dishes, not doing the laundry or the groceries. When was the last time you actually had a day without caring about things not working out if you did not take action?

Society has really shaped the way we think with this “I must do something” mindset in which we aren’t fulfilled if we aren’t doing anything. Don’t take this article wrong. If you have no job and are just lounging around at home every single day, that itself is equally wrong.

However, if you’ve been working your butt off for a very long time and you find yourself on a holiday or on a weekend when you really have nothing to do, why stress yourself out trying to get things done? We create work for ourselves when it isn’t even necessary, and we focus on the wrong reasons for working.

You’ve already worked ourselves to the full extent when we are in the office, so don’t steal away the precious days that you have to relax. Don’t try to be productive just for the sake of productivity. You’ll end up boring yourself, and additionally, come Monday, you’re already tired – and we don’t want that, do we?
